Dieppe, New Brunswick Named After Dieppe, France
Originaly known as French Village and subsequently Léger's Corner, in 1946 it became the Village of Dieppe in memory of the Canadian soldiers killed during the Allied raid on the Normandy coastal port of Dieppe on August 19, 1942.
In 1948, Lakeburn was annexed to Dieppe, with the expanded village becoming incorporated as the Town of Dieppe in 1952. Lakeburn is where the Moncton Airport has always been located. During WWII, Lakeburn was home of an RCAF Flying Training School.
In 1973 Saint-Anselme, Chartersville, Fox Creek and Dover were annexed into Dieppe.
