Barry Bonds Canadian Sugar Maple Bat

There's a Canadian component in Barry Bonds' new record in that great American sport, baseball.
(I know this is not about hockey, but as Canadians we should be open to other cultures.)

The baseball bats that Bonds has been using (since 1998) are manufactured across the Ottawa River from Canada's capital in Gatineau, Quebec at the Original Maple Bat Corporation

But the story is not so much about where the bats are made as it is about what the bats are made from. No space age alloys here. The bats are made from Canadian sugar Maple trees! Imagine, after tapping Canadian sugar Maple trees to make Canadian Maple syrup, some trees are made into what many, including Mr. Bonds, consider to be the most durable wooden baseball bats in the world.

Canadian Maple, on our pancakes, on our flag and now in baseball history.
