The Global Recession and the Moncton Housing Market

The word "recession" is all over the news. I just did a search for the word "recession" on canadaeast.com and the search returned 163 results in just the last seven days.

Two national reports released today offer mixed messages about a recession in Atlantic Canada.

A Conference Board of Canada news release said this about consumer confidence: " Confidence fell in all regions of the country in December, ranging from a marginal decline in the Western provinces to a 7.8 point drop in Atlantic Canada. " The same news release also said :  " There was one bright spot in the survey. For the second consecutive month, an increasing percentage of respondents said it was a good time to make a big-ticket purchase. "

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce released their 2009 Economic Outlook which says " The Atlantic Provinces are expected to avoid recession. "

If you've read my October Moncton Market Report or my November Metro Moncton Market Report  then you know where we've been.  I'll soon be posting my year end report along with my forecast for the Moncton Housing Market in 2009.
