Moncton CMA New Housing Starts April 2009
Whoops! - there it is. Last month I predicted that the Moncton CMA in 2009 will once again lead the Province in housing starts. Well my ship seems sailing a little off course as the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reveals their April 2009 preliminary housing start numbers.
Total starts in the Moncton CMA fell 47% from last April. That puts the year to date Moncton CMA total starts year to date 38% behind 2008. Total new housing starts in the Moncton CMA year to date are now behind Saint John and Fredericton.
Here's a couple of charts to illustrate the numbers. Both charts are year-to-date end of April. The first chart is all starts and the second is single family detached only. Either way, housing starts in the Moncton CMA are behind year-to-date compared to Saint John and Fredericton.
I'm beginning to envision eating crow pie.
